Dr. Paul was born in Kansas City, MO.   He graduated with highest honors from Rockhurst High School.  He attended the University of Notre Dame graduating in 1985 with a BA in Pre-Professional studies and Psychology.   He returned home and received his MD from the University of Kansas Medical School.   While there he was President of his class at the Wichita campus.  At graduation, he received the Ciba-Geigy Leadership award and the Mahlon Delp M.D. Internal Medicine award.

He came to Phoenix for his Internal Medicine training finishing his Internship and Residency at the Good Samaritan/VA GME program.   Fellowship training in Hematology and Medical Oncology followed at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN graduating in 1995.   He was the Bristol Myers-Squibb endowed fellow during those years while pursuing original research in Lung Cancer and co-authoring a book chapter with Dr. David Johnson, his mentor.

He came back to Phoenix to join Internists, Oncologist Ltd in 1995 until October 2012 when it merged with Palo Verde Cancer Specialists.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology.   He has regularly been named “Top Doc” in the Phoenix Magazine since 2001 and been given the Patient Choice Award for several years.   He has served the Medical Staff at Banner Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in a number of leadership capacities including Chief of Service for Internal Medicine and most recently Chief of the Medical Staff from 2010-2012 and is a member of ASH and ASCO.

He enjoys tennis, golf and downhill skiing and spending time with his wife and five children.
