At Palo Verde Cancer Specialists, we’re proud to provide world-class radiation therapy and cancer treatment to the communities of Glendale, Scottsdale, Payson, and the greater Phoenix area. We strive to create comprehensive treatment plans that take patient lifestyle and comfort into account, and we’ll work closely with you to help you understand your options and beat your condition. While most of our patients are fighting cancer, we can also offer radiation therapy to patients with other conditions – including arteriovenous malformations.
CyberKnife is a revolutionary radiation therapy system that combines some of the most advanced medical technology in the world to deliver a truly one-of-a-kind treatment system. Using a robotic arm that’s capable of rotating 360º around a patient, CyberKnife delivers high-dose radiation directly to the site of a tumor with sub-millimeter accuracy. There are no incisions, no painful immobility braces, and almost no side effects – making CyberKnife a truly noninvasive treatment.
The key to CyberKnife’s power is its technology. The precision robotic arm has full mobility to target virtually any location in the body from any angle, allowing CyberKnife to treat a wide range of cancers. Plus, CyberKnife uses the Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System, allowing it to track and adjust for involuntary tumor movement in real time. Thanks to its motion tracking capabilities, CyberKnife patients never have to wear uncomfortable braces or immobility devices.
In addition to cancer, CyberKnife can treat some noncancerous conditions like arteriovenous malformations. AVMs are snarled tangles of veins that connect blood vessels and bypass capillaries, filling with blood and potentially causing serious problems by hemorrhaging. With CyberKnife, we can deliver precision radiation to the AVM and cause it to close, minimizing the risk of a bleed and preventing the AVM from growing.
Treatment looks different for every patient, but you’ll likely receive your dose of radiation over the course of 1-5 consecutive treatment days. Treatment is easy: just lie on the treatment couch, stay relatively still, and let CyberKnife deliver high-dose radiation to your AVM. After treatment, we’ll schedule a follow up to ensure everything looks normal.
While AVMs rarely produce symptoms, they can cause serious problems and even prove lethal if they bleed – so if you or a loved one have been diagnosed with an AVM, don’t wait. Contact us today to learn more about treatment and schedule a consultation at one of our six Phoenix cancer centers. We look forward to treating your AVM and helping you achieve the peace of mind that comes with a healthy body!
