PVCS was the first practice to be certified by QOPI in Arizona
Dr. Zafar was born in Pakistan. He completed Medical School at the Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan in 1989. He then completed an Internship at the Services Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan in 1991. He then came to the US and completed an externship at the MD Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston Texas in 1993. Dr. Zafar then came to Arizona and completed an integrated Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix and Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. He was named Internal Medicine Resident of the Year at Maricopa Medical Center in 1996. He then was in private practice as an Internist in Phoenix and Wickenburg AZ, from 1996 to 2001. He then went to the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio Texas and completed a Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology. He was named Fellow of the Year in his program in 2002 and 2003 .He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine , Hematology and Oncology.
Because he liked Arizona so much he returned to Phoenix and joined Palo Verde Hematology Oncology in 2004. He was one of the first staff physicians at Banner Estrella Hospital and has worked diligently to develop excellent Hematology Oncology care at that hospital. He serves as the Chairman of the Cancer Committee at Banner Estrella Hospital.
Dr. Zafar is married and has three children. He enjoys playing cricket and flying radio controlled Planes.
