October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and everyone here at Palo Verde Cancer Specialists is always excited to celebrate. Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the larger breast cancer awareness movement have played a pivotal role in both the cultural discussion around cancer and cancer treatment research, helping to stimulate billions of dollars in research that have lead to incredible new treatments. Our team will be working to spread awareness for breast cancer and treat all of our cancer patients here in Phoenix, and if you’re interested in participating, here are some ways you can help.
How to Participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month is easy, and you can feel good about the fact that you’ll be helping not just yourself, but millions of other women in the fight against breast cancer. Here are a couple of simple, easy ways to take part this October:
- Educate Yourself: Spend some time learning the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. The more familiar you are with them, the better you’ll be able to detect breast cancer in yourself or others.
- Examine Yourself: Self-examinations are an important part of breast cancer detection, so no matter what age you are, it’s a good idea to make a practice of regularly examining yourself for any lumps or other abnormalities.
- Create a Healthier Lifestyle: One of the best things you can do to prevent breast cancer and other forms of cancer is to maintain a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise. This October, pay closer attention to your diet and exercise habits and work to make healthier choices wherever you can.
- Donate to Nonprofits: A great way to further the fight against cancer is through donations – even small ones – to nonprofit groups on the front lines. You may choose to donate to an organization specific to breast cancer, or to an organization that works to fight cancer more generally. No matter what you choose to do, you’ll be helping to further a worthy cause and advance our abilities to treat cancer.
